The Franklin County Young Democrats are grateful for the years of service from our former Secretary Stacie Baker, who stepped down to enter the 2017 Reynoldsburg City Council race. Having young progressives actively engaging in the political process is our mission and it’s always a point of pride to see our members stepping up in this important way. We wish him the best of luck!
The FCYDems Constitution outlines our process for appointment of officers when necessary. It is left to the president’s discretion. Although an application, interviews, etc. is not required, we’ve afforded members this opportunity in the past.
With our Screening Committee meeting for the May primary already set, as well as our endorsement meeting, we felt it necessary to appoint quickly. We narrowed our pool of candidates based on previous applications. It is from there, and with the approval of our Executive Board, that we have chosen our new Secretary.
It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome Michael Corey to the FCYDems Board! Michael most recently served as a Regional Voter Protection Director for the Clinton Campaign. He is also an active member of the FCYDems Policy Matters committee. An attorney and Columbus native, he brings a depth of applicable policy experience to this new role. Michael joined the campaign after serving as a policy analyst at the Children’s Defense Fund-Ohio, and as a healthcare attorney at Bricker & Eckler LLP. Michael has also served as a Legal Fellow for Sen. Sherrod Brown, and has held positions with the Kirwan Institute at The Ohio State University, the Children’s Hunger Alliance, and the Ohio Board of Regents. Michael is a graduate of Duke University, and holds an M.A. from Ohio State’s School of Education Policy & Leadership, and a J.D. from Ohio State’s Moritz College of Law, where he served as Executive Editor of the Ohio State Law Journal. Michael lives in Columbus with his wife, Lori, who directs the Healthcare for the Homeless program at Primary One Health.
